Thanksgiving

Although it was first celebrated in 1621 by the Plymouth colonists and the Wampanoag Indians to celebrate the autumn harvest, Thanksgiving wasn't declared a national holiday until 1863 by Abraham Lincoln. Since then, Americans gather around the Thanksgiving table on the fourth Thursday of November; in 2023, Thanksgiving will be on November 23, and in 2024, it will be November 28. Known as a time for family, traditions, and food (and the kickoff of Black Friday shopping), Thanksgiving is a perfect time to share your gratitude and blessings with loved ones. As a company that's all about connecting, Hallmark is here to help.

If you're hosting family and friends, start by setting a cozy, thankful mood with Thanksgiving decorations or fall decor in rich autumn colors. With a crackling log in the fireplace, add a few pillows, throw blankets, a pilgrim figurine and some candles that will fill your home with delicious fall scents like cinnamon, pumpkin or apple, and make your family room warm and inviting. And because we all know that Thanksgiving is all about the food, set a gorgeous Thanksgiving table with table runners, pie plates and serving platters, combined with natural elements like pumpkins and gourds. If you never can keep straight which glass is which, learn how to set a table like an etiquette pro. Keep your Thanksgiving attire spotless with a festive fall apron, plus tea towels and pot holders. Once everyone is seated around the table, start a tradition of thankfulness that can last year-round. Browse all of our Thanksgiving crafts, ideas and recipes.

Before the tryptophan kicks in and works its sleepy magic, let those you love know how thankful you are for them by sending or hand-delivering a Thanksgiving card. From heartfelt to funny, Hallmark offers a message that will ring true for those both near and far. Wishing you and yours the most bountiful of Thanksgiving blessings—and the last piece of pie!
